Transgender Day of Visibility

Today, March 31st, is the International Transgender Day of Visibility. And as all of the social media, news and emails about this day surround you, remember that no matter what, you, as you are, in this moment, are valid and lovable.

Perhaps you can't be visible, because you haven't started any transition, and you are in a situation that makes that difficult. Or perhaps you have completely transitioned, but are living as stealth, because of the real fear of violence or discrimination.

Being visible as a trans and/or gender-expansive person takes courage and resilience. Even if you live in the most trans-affirming location (like Northern California, where I live,) you are still subject to transphobia. You'll perhaps be misgendered. Or you'll overhear a conversation between TERFs at a queer event, or someone you are dating will ghost you after you tell them you are trans. All of those can be really hard to handle.

Whether you can or cannot be visible right now, work on building your resilience: self-love, self-care, and embodiment. Find joy in living your authentic life.
